Home and school are the places where girls and boys should feel most loved,
safe and accompanied. These are vital areas for development,
but nine out of ten children in the capital of Bolivia, La Paz, suffer abuse in these places.
Bolivia, where almost half of its population is under 18,
is one of the poorest countries in Latin America. In the department of La Paz,
only 15.4 out of every one hundred people see their basic needs met, and in the city of El Alto,
only a scant 7.29 percent. For girls and boys, poverty represents a violation of their rights
of survival and development, which is exacerbated when it is also linked to situations
of exclusion, mistreatment and sexual violence.
